Problem
The client, one of Europe’s largest banks, had a regulatory obligation to calculate and report the regulatory capital required for its securitisation holdings (such as Mortgage Backed Securities or MBS).
The manual process performed solely with spreadsheets took days to weeks and was very error prone.
Solution
As the process required a lot of data, the solution started with a SQL Server database to process 8 Gb of data daily and perform the regulatory calculations.
An Excel Add-In was used to provide screens to view the data by about 80 users in UK and Europe.
The regulatory reports were fully automated (no manual intervention) plus reports & PivotTables for analysis.
The process now took hours and saved the bank some £11 in P&L.
