This manager co-ordinated a team of 12 analysts to produce monthly reports for senior management – including the board of directors – for a major bank.
One report required a 150 megabyte text file from which an analyst copied-and-pasted individual values to produce a matrix.
This manual, error prone process consumed about 3 ½ hours.

The solution was to import the large text file into MS Access.
Each datapoint in the report required a separate query, so a generic query was written which accepted various parameters. The parameter values were stored in the cell to receive the data. Users used a dedicated screen to edit the queries as required.
The report which previously took 3 ½ hours to prepare, now took about 20 seconds.
